EARTH HOUR 2010 is just around the corner, taking place SATURDAY, MARCH 27th, 2010 from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The CN Tower in Toronto, The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.

Follow these steps to make the most of Earth Hour…

Take a stand and pledge to turn off your lights on March 27 at 8:30 PM.

Starbucks Introduce A New Idea

Starbucks has always been one of the leading companies which makes their customers aware of their global awareness involvement. With their Starbucks™ Shared Planet™ campaign they are always pushing the envelope in trying to find ways to better-improve customer relations and help consumers become initiated in the global awareness.

Well, they have done it again. Check out this awesome idea by David Lieske that Starbucks will be launching on March 9th 2010 in select US stores! Introducing the Eco-conscious Starbucks Card!

We’ve seen quite a few suggestions to increase our use of recycled content in the production of Starbucks Cards. The spirit of this idea marries well with our Starbucks™ Shared Planet™ goal to find innovative ways to decrease our environmental footprint.

We focused on understanding the journey our Cards make – from raw material sourcing to end of usable life – so that we can make sound decisions and reduce our environmental footprint.

For every product we offer, we want to provide something you’ll love, while also staying consistent with our values as a company. This is certainly true for the Starbucks Card, which is why we were so excited to work with Conservation International to develop a new Card made with 80 percent post-industrial recycled materials.

SKATE4CANCER: Not-For-Profit of the week

It’s another week and it’s time to feature a not-for-profit for you guys to howl over and get your knowledge brushed up on!

This week I had no research to do what so ever. This not-for-profit is close and dear to me. I have been following this organization for a few years and am always amazed by the amazing work that comes out of Skate4cancer.

Skate4cancer is a Cancer Prevention Awareness organization and campaign which educates the masses. Through knowledge and education youth can be made aware of the ongoing battle with cancer this world has been struggling to fight for years. The benefit of being introduced to skate4cancer is that, if you are a youth or have a child of your own, this organization is IDEAL for them. Skate4cancer educates the youth through concerts (THE CURE IS KNOWLEDGE tour), and a campaign where founder Rob Dyer skateboards across the world to raise awareness in a original method.

What Is S4C?
Skate4Cancer is an organization and is based out of Toronto Ontario Canada, aimed at spreading education about cancer prevention. Over the last 7 years, Skate4Cancer’s founder, Rob Dyer, has travelled across North America sharing his passion for cancer awareness with everyone he encounters. He has had an especially strong connection with the youth demographic through his affiliation with the skateboarding and music communities across the continent. We aim to make Skate4Cancer events free and open to all ages wherever possible.

What is the cure is knowledge tour?
The Cure Is Knowledge Tour is a grassroots initiative that takes Rob on tour with one or two of his favourite musical artists in order to connect with the Skate4Cancer communities across the globe. All of the shows are free and all ages. To date, TCIK tours have taken place only in Canada, but we are looking forward to taking these tours international very soon. VANCOUVER 2010: Victory Ceremony Headliners Lineup and Dates

The 2010 Winter Olympics have made their way to our glorious country and we are ringing it in this evening with the Opening Ceremonies. After just over 100 days of torch bearing, delays, and a few small complications the torch is safe and sound nd ready for the official ceremonies. Opening and Closing Ceremonies are unique, large-scale celebrations capturing the spirit and personality of our city, province and country, and are a celebration of the world’s greatest athletes. The Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony will take place at Vancouver’s BC Place on February 12, 2010. The Closing Ceremony on February 28, 2010 will also be held at BC Place.

Let’s dress up in the red and white and support our athletes through the olympics in our home country and wish them the most medals to win in the end! A major part of the olympics, other than the teamwork and sports and competitions are the ceremonies and all the talent they have on board as special presentations.
