Fueled By Ramen recording artist VersaEmerge has finally announced the release of their gut wrenching anticipated debut. “Fixed At Zero” will arrive to all fans online and in stores as of June 22, so make sure to mark those calendars and save the date.

The Deluxe Digital edition will feature four bonus tracks, including B-sides and exclusive acoustic renditions of our favorites. In addition, the FBR Webstore will be offering some pre-order bundles, with such elite extras as t-shirts and a limited edition calendar which will include the names and birthdates of the first 500 fans placing pre-orders.

VersaEmerge have already been acclaimed as one of Alternative Press’s “Bands You Need To Know,” VersaEmerge have just embarked on an intensive live schedule, which will keep the trio busy all summer long. What’s more, VersaEmerge will also be spending their summer on the road with the Vans Warped Tour TwentyTen. The annual festival trek hits the road June 25th at Carson, California’s Home Depot Center, and lead the bands into a rigorous tour into mid-August. Make sure to get your tickets well in advance before they sell out and go support VersaEmerge.

Let us lead the way into this album. Debut full length FIXED AT ZERO. The opening track, Figure It Out, leads you into the album with a really creative introduction, and a great sound to set the scene of the album. The song is a catchy typical versa emerge song with some great vocals, and lyrics. One of the greatest aspects of VersaEmerge I have always found to have been the vocal of Sierra Kusterbeck. Poignant and yet angelic. This song seems to focuses on her vocals a lot more than previous songs I have heard from the band.

Mind Reader follows along with staying in an outstanding display of musicianship, and possibly one of my favorite songs. The band introduces their old familiar sound in this song more than the previous one, which is a nice thing to expect. This song quickly leads you into the self titled track Fixed At Zero, which graces us with an unexpected technical introduction. The most technical display of techniques I have heard thus far from guitarist Blake Harnage. Fixed At Zero will not disappoint any fans of the band, or skeptics. The song does not sieze to surprise you, as there are some great surprise musical parts throughout.

You’ll Never Know is next on the album, which is thus far a great album. Stranger follows, which is possibly one of my favorite tracks from the album. A mellow and slower song to add a break between the other songs, which suddenly takes a interesting turn with a great transition into a more melodic song. VersaEmerge have improved with their style, as well as talent, and have tightened up their sound, and it’s very noticeable in this album throughout the next few songs as well. Redesign Me, Fire (Aim Your Arrows High), Up There, and Your Own LoV.E. are all also spectacular songs with their poignant style.

Mythology, the second last track, leading us into, unfortunately, a conclusion. Although a conclusion to the album, it is not at all a let down in any way. Lost Tree extends itself into a lengthy seven-minute closing track. The track beings soft and acoustic before quickly picking up, and if you listen closely, you will notice something a little exciting, which I picked up on after listening to the album over and over. The vocals introduce a mixture of lyrics from the rest of the songs featured on the album.

All in all, this album is worth picking up, and for fans of PARAMORE (evidently with a female front-woman, and ironically label mates), you will not at all be let down. I recommend this album to anyone interested in some new music, and if you have not heard VE yet, I would strongly you do a little research and look into them.

10. Don’t Pretend (Feat. Colin Munroe)

Known internationally as alternative superstar front man of Gym Class Heroes, Travis McCoy has decided to step out of the superstar fame and back into his own roots. McCoy’s solo debut sees a pairing of writers, artists and producers alike featuring T-Pain, Bruno Mars and the Smeezingtons (B.o.B, Cobra Starship, Flo Rida) just to name a few.

The album opens with the song Dr. Feel Good (feat. Cee-Lo Green), which lives up to it’s name with no hesitation. From the second you put on the first track, you see the direction that Travie has taken with his solo project. The optimistic beat, and cheerful lyrics are exactly the theme you should expect through this album. Superbad flows on next, and takes you down a notch, while still leaving a glimmer of hope. You can begin to feel the vibe of this album, and notice a boost in maturity within the lyrical content since previous Gym Class Heroes releases.

As the album progresses, it peaks at my favorite track, and the single Billionaire (feat. Bruno Mars). The first single ‘Billionaire’ is currently the #5 song on iTunes and #15 on radio. This song is what makes Travie McCoy, well, Travie. To this day, I had not a clue who Bruno Mars was, but now all I know is that he is talented, and an amazing musician. I can’t wait to hear more of him in the near future, and thanks to Travis for the introduction. The lyrics on this track are outstanding, and so empowering. Such a positive song is a nice refreshing change of pace within the industry these days, that it is almost calming in a strange kind of way.

The album then leads into a few songs which can be expected from Travie. Need You and Critical (feat. Tim William) show the roots of Travie. Both songs can easily remind you of Gym Class Heroes albums, which is by no means a negative aspect of the album. I find it refreshing to hear the tracks into a mixture of various genres combined into one single album.

Akidagain follows, which is another great song. This song is hands down the runner up for best song on the album. I think the addition of kids doing group guest vocals, adds a personal touch to the song, which plays great on the meaning on the track. It’s a song that puts you in Travis’ feet as you reminisce about the old memories, and past.

We’ll be alright loosely makes me think of Gym Class Heroes – Clothes Off!, which in itself is a fun song. It’s just a genuine song about being happy, and being up-beat and living life to it’s fullest and enjoying every moment of it, which seems to be a significant theme throughout the album. The Manual (feat. T-Pain and Young Cash) follows, leading us into After Midnight, which again plays into the theme of living life to it’s fullest and enjoying every moment of it.

To put an end to an immaculate album you will be graced by Don’t Pretend (feat. Colin Munroe), which is very much so a ballad about broken hearts and lost romances. This is possibly the most serious song on the album, and the song to throw you off the most. After an album filled with happiness, and excitement, this is the equivalent of throwing an acoustic song into a Metal album featuring repetitive breakdowns. It might have been unexpected, but it was worth while none the less.

All in all, this album is a absolute must buy for any fan of Gym Class Heroes, or hip hop for that matter. This album is promising, and an absolute pleasure to listen to. With the release of the album comes the press, and Travie is going to be celebrating the release of “LAZARUS” with Bruno Mars on national television appearances and performances on both NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno followed by a June 21st appearance on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

You can also catch Travie with Gym Class Heroes on the tail end of The Too Fast For Love Tour with Cobra Starship and 3OH!3:

Yet another band are undergoing member changes and the loss of members. 2010 seems to be the magical year where bands are losing members, or simply throwing in the towel and calling it quits. The newest band to join these ranks is Before Their Eyes, who have officially announced that vocalist Nick Moore will be parting ways. Moore says it was “a mutual decision”. You can expect to see Moore in the future as is starting a new project. Before Their Eyes are slated to reveal a new frontman shortly.

Moore wrote in a MySpace blog,

“I am officially no longer in Before Their Eyes. The reasoning is pretty simple, I am not on the same page as the band. I love our new album and I wish more than anything that I could continue playing all these songs that I have helped create for you every night. This decision was a mutual decision between everyone involved and there are no hard feelings. Sometimes things just don’t make sense and that’s a part of life. I still love the guys and consider them my best friends and wish them the best of luck.”

The band replied to Moore’s sentiments saying,

“Nick has been an integral part of this band since the beginning and we have nothing but the highest respect for him as a musician, songwriter, and friend. Simply put, we’re at different points in our lives and together agreed it best to move forward and pursue our projects separately.”

Best of luck to both Nick Moore and Before Their Eyes in their future endeavours.

So let me fill you in. We Are Alaska is a band hailing out of Ajax, Ontario. The band originally came together in April of 2009 and has progressed since. After the departure of the bands first and only drummer, the decision was made to exclusively use pre-written/recorded drum tracks for live use in place of a human. They are currently made up of Matt Alex fronting the band on vocals, Andrew Cleavelend on guitar, Sai Sich on bass and are currently looking for a new drummer.

Ok so this is not the real album art. This is how I received it.

WE ARE ALASKA are saturating the scene with their debut self titled EP “We Are Alaska”.

The EP leaves you hanging with a short tracklisting of only 6 songs, but they are a great choice to put We Are Alaska on the map. The vocals to the first 4 songs of the album were recorded with Reid from Know Where You Stand, with the last two being recorded at an in-home studio. This is a change from the consistent breakdowns and we are slowly being introduced into lightning quick transition. While trying to stay away from the typical sound of metalcore bands, We Are Alaska is on the right path with a guitar solo introducing you to the EP, and setting the mood for the rest of the album, it surely sets your mindset in the right direction. Throughout the album, you will hear some technical parts, some nice transitions, and some breakdowns while keeping them minimal which is a change in pace with all of the newer bands we hear breaking out into the scene these days. The album resembles the sound of the old Bring Me The Horizon from the days of Count Your Blessings. We Are Alaska opens with an explosive song and leaves us with the least brutal song showing a development throughout the entire album.

What they should improve:
Drums. Of course, with the release of this album, as stated previously, there was a lack of a physical drummer, which could improve on previous material and add that extra touch to the album, and I respect that they have engaged for their fans with these circumstances ahead of them. Vocals. Matt has some good vocals and simply needs to explore more in vocal ranges and variety of vocals. If it were not for the back up vocals, the album would sound to me as if it were flat. The progression of a band comes through the amelioration of a musician as in themselves, and with the improvement of vocal styles will come the progression of this band.

Singer Matt Davies-Kreye was also responsible for postong on the band’s Myspace page last month, adding:

Bolmer is hinted to replace Chiodos’ former vocalist, Craig Owens, who parted ways with the band in September.
