			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I was walking around town with my iPod, and mind racing a mile a minute. I had in mind an idea, a vision, in which I could include monthly campaigns on my website in order to raise awareness about some issues.</p>
<p>Now, the first campaign had to be something with impact, and which would show the community and network of readers that I am not taking these monthly campaigns lightly. Although it was was a fairly easy step for me. While mostly avoiding the read meats, other than the occasional meals, I was not the biggest fan. Mind you, while I always dreaded eating red meat, and suffering from indigestion and upset bowels as a side effect, I wasn’t always the best at eating vegetables either.</p>
<p>When I decided to become a vegetarian, I had to sit down and do a little research. I looked through some cookbooks, and researched online how to stay healthy, and get all the essential vitamins, and nutrients. Armed with knowledge and determination, the first campaign was announced. Being Vegetarian for a month would prove a challenge; not because of the fact that I wanted to eat a steak every day, not becuase I could not live without meat, but the fact that it was a prohobited item made you want it that much more. You always want what you can&#8217;t get.</p>
<p>It all seemed so easy.</p>
<p>The hardest part of the campaign was going out to eat. Many restaraunts are now armed with an arsenal of vegetables in the kitchen, and visible on the menu, as a side dish, salad, or ingredient, but you would be surprised to see how little they offer for fellow vegetarians, or vegans. Sure, some menus have a veggie burger, or a veggie wrap, but that gets really repetative really fast. And no, fries are not a meal.</p>
<p>Throughout this campaign, I have noticed a lot of interest from readers and the community. People getting involved and asking me how the campaign is going. It gives me hope to further expand on the future campaigns, make them bigger and get more people involved, maybe an open campaign where anyone can join in and participate.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Our local hometown venue which is slowly becoming our second home, <em>The Top Shelf</em> was host to yet another great bill with some of the top bands in the scene right now. On display was; Sleep When You&#8217;re Dead, Of Soldiers And Saints, Cederdale, Know Where You Stand, and to headline the show the band everyone came to see As You Like Me.</p>
<p>I would first like to start not by reviewing and talking about the bands, but the people attending these shows. The last few TOP SHELF shows have had nothing but drama. It&#8217;s for these specific reasons that the scene as we know it is in a constant state of suffering and downfall. If you plan on attending shows and drinking to the point where you will actually try and cause unwanted problems and drama, PLEASE DO US ALL A FAVOR AND STAY HOME. It was abundantely clear that you were unwanted at the show, regardless of your attendance of BROCK UNIVERSITY.  THE TOP SHELF is one of the venues who is actually still supporting the scene while letting us book shows still to this day. Regardless of their previous issues they have still let promoters book the venue. Because of the occurances at these shows, the TOP SHELF is now making promoters PAY for the venue, which months ago was not the case. If people knew how to behave and had a respect for the scene, this would not be the case and more shows could be expected.</p>
<p>All in all, drama aside, this was a excellent show with some great bands. One of the best shows of the year. I hope to see more of AS YOU LIKE ME around the scene, and expect more and more shows to pop up with their name on the bill.</p>

<p>The public to this day have shown me a lot of support, and so has the great bands I have been working with. All endorsed bands have made me feel loved, and so many of the new people I have met through Promos4Awareness have been really amazing, and I can&#8217;t thank them enough. The extent of this website is only in the mere beta stages, and much much more is to come with time. I would like to personally thank <strong>everyone</strong> who is showing support, and has helped me make it this far.</p>
<p>Which is where the campaigns come into place, my way of giving back to the community.</p>
<p>After much consideration, and careful planning, I have decided that the month of June is the launch of the Promos4Awareness Campaigns. As a sign of respect to a few of my fellow readers, I have decided to follow their idea for the <em><strong>FIRST</strong></em> campaign, which will be a challenge for myself. I will be going VEGETARIAN for the whole month of June. We all know my weakness for Chicken Burgers, Pulled Pork, and Bacon, so this will surely be a challenge.</p>
<p>To keep up with this campaign, I will be posting a picture of EVERYTHING I will be eating during the month of June (All meals per day) directly to <strong>FACEBOOK </strong>via mobile upload. If you are interested, please add me to <a href="http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=510913118" target="_blank"><em><strong>FACEBOOK</strong></em></a> if you have not already and follow my campaign. This is promised to be fun, a challenge, and exciting. <p>This week it is time to bring it back to the roots of the campaign, exploring new ideas for youth to relate to. It&#8217;s no secret that with the movement of &#8220;we-doers&#8221; popping out of just about everywhere these days, that some organizations might be a little easier to relate to than others for kids struggling to find someone who will understand them. For that reason I went to a young, hip, not for profit organization who needs no introduction and has saturated the music industry with the support of many bands.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.twloha.com/" target="_blank">To Write Love on Her Arms (<strong>TWLOHA</strong>)</a> has expanded and become to have been known one of the largest not for profit organizations with the support of such acts like <em> Boys Like Girls, OneRepublic, Mayday Parade, Anberlin, Evanescence, The Rocket Summer, Hawthorne Heights, Sam Boyd Panic at the Disco,</em> <em>A Skylit Drive, Between the Trees The Almost, Underoath, Bayside, As We Collide, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, </em>and many more.</p>
<p>Over 248,590 fans on Facebook since being added to the application as of <a href="http://www.twloha.com/" target="_blank">To Write Love on Her Arms (<strong>TWLOHA</strong>)</a>Day 2009 (November 13, 2009). In addition, Facebook groups for TWLOHA have increased three-fold since early 2007, with nearly 50,000 Facebook users associating themselves with groups related to the organization. Additionally, the &#8220;Love Is The Movement&#8221; project, although separate to the actual organization, had more than 380,000 members who dedicated themselves to writing &#8220;love&#8221; on their arms and sharing the message of the organization on November 13, 2008—and any day thereafter.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I sat down and had a chance to interview one of this month&#8217;s feature artist, Piano-Rock band Everyone&#8217;s Talking. Their new album came out recently which was produced by one and only David Bottrill <em>(Moneen, Coheed And Cambria, Circa Survive) </em>I caught up with them and asked them about a few things including their experience in working with David Bottrill.</p>

<div><strong><span style="color: #888888;">1. For those who might not know who you are, can you introduce yourself and your band?</span></strong></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">(Dani) &#8211; I play keys, write and sing. Our band Everyone&#8217;s Talking is awesome and is a blend of warm pop tunes and gritty prog. We call it Piano-Rock.</span></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">(Evan) &#8211; I sing, play guitar, and write. Everyone&#8217;s Talking was started by Dani and myself and we&#8217;ve been writing together for the last few years. In the live setting as a band, we like to extend our genre of piano-rock into jam band territory by expanding on our musical ideas. I think it&#8217;s a great way to keep things fresh for us and keep audiences engaged.</span></div>

<div><strong><span style="color: #888888;">2. You guys recently released DRAGONFLIES which was produced by David Bottrill (Moneen, Coheed And Cambria, Circa Survive). How was that experience for you guys?</span></strong></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">(D) &#8211; David Bottrill is a fantastic engineer and a fascinating man who has worked with some amazing artists. However, the recording of the album wasn&#8217;t the best experience. It was quite stressful because we had two weeks to handle everything. I guess that&#8217;s what happens when you try to get your album produced by him while staying independent. Nevertheless, we are quite happy with the result. Hopefully next time we&#8217;ll have about half-a-year to record, mix, and master our album.</span></div>

<div><strong><span style="color: #888888;">3. The album came out online and is based off of &#8220;Pay what you want&#8221; download, where did that idea come from?</span></strong></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">(D) &#8211; Our main inspiration for this method came from Radiohead of course, and their game-changing In Rainbows release. I think they set an example for everyone that music does not have a set price tag, and that bands can get paid by the support of their fans. Plus, I think that for an independent band, this is the best way to go. Give people the opportunity to check out the band&#8217;s debut album for whatever they think is fair.</span></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">(E) &#8211; Amongst ourselves and our peer group I&#8217;ve noticed the decline in physical CD sales. It would be naive of us to think that we would be 1 of 3 CD purchases they make this year, and that&#8217;s if they make any. So it was our goal to make our record as accessible as possible. It&#8217;s not a be all end all solution but for now it&#8217;s a step in the right direction.</span></div>

<div><strong><span style="color: #888888;">4. Has the album (Dragonflies) been well received thus far? Where can we download Dragonflies?</span></strong></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">(E) &#8211; The songs have been received well. It&#8217;s a very diverse mix of tracks and everyone seems to have a different favorite. I&#8217;m still digesting all the reactions. I hear it&#8217;s good from people all the time but the goal isn&#8217;t to be good. Great art receives polarized reactions.</span></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">(D) &#8211; It was great to hear fans feedback from all over the globe. This is another advantage to the &#8216;Pay What You Want&#8217; method. We had responses from places other than Canada, like Mexico, UK, Russia, Israel and more. Anyone could download the album on <a href="http://www.everyonestalking.net/" target="_blank">www.everyonestalking.net</a> or on our myspace page.</span></div>

<div><strong><span style="color: #888888;">5. Now that the album is out and circulating, what&#8217;s the next step for Everyone&#8217;s Talking?</span></strong></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">(D) &#8211; The next step is more like a few dozen steps. Our main goal is to complete our full band lineup by getting a permanent drummer and bassist on board for the live show. Among other things, we have a load of new songs to record, videos and video-blogs to film, plus we hope to get on a tour.</span></div>

<div><strong><span style="color: #888888;">6. Where can we check out a Everyone&#8217;s Talking show? Any shows coming up you would like to advertise for?</span></strong></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">(E) &#8211; We&#8217;re constantly announcing shows on our Facebook and Myspace pages. Join them and keep checking back for updates. We always like to hear from fans on those pages, feel free to send us messages, it helps us know where to point our efforts.</span></div>

<div><strong><span style="color: #888888;">7. Do you guys think the music industry is getting involved enough with not-for-profit organizations?</span></strong></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">(E) &#8211; Musicians play a huge role in helping raise awareness and funds for not-for-profit organizations because music is the most powerful way to bring people together around a cause. All the acts that I look up to are involved with not-for-profit organization in one way or another.</span></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">Talking in general, let&#8217;s not forget that the music industry is a very image driven business and as long as working with not-for-profits is seen as a positive then we&#8217;re only going to see more involvement from the music industry.</span></div>

<div><strong><span style="color: #888888;">8. Do you guys currently work closely or collaborate with any not-for-profit organizations?</span></strong></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">(E) &#8211; Last month after the disaster in Haiti we announced that all profits from album sales in that week will be donated to Doctors Without Boarders. As well I cut my long hair recently an donated it to get turned into wigs for cancer patients. It&#8217;s a start but I hope to do more over the next few years.</span></div>

<strong>9. It&#8217;s no secret that the Toronto Music Scene is slowly disappearing with the closure of massive venues, where do you think it will be within the next few years?</strong></span></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">(E) &#8211; As one venue closes another one opens. Toronto is a vibrant multi-cultural city and music will always be a huge part of it but because of its diversity as a city we&#8217;re supporting many musical niches. The rock show is no longer the hottest ticket in town but neither is any other ticket.</span></div>
<div><span style="color: #888888;">(D) &#8211; Toronto has some great bands and although the scene here is rather limited, I believe the music will find its way. I can&#8217;t wait to visit other cities and explore music scenes all over the world.</span></div>

The idea of AKOHA.com is just random acts of kindness which when you complete them, give you points. It helps people spead good deeds across the world. It might be sad that we need a website to help us do some acts of kindness, but I think it is a fun initiative and will help promote some fun enthusiasm into the daily routine.</p>
<p>So let&#8217;s see how many points I can gather up. I recieved my first missions and will be on my way. A nice little boost of motivation.</p>
