A few nights ago, Matthew walked from my apt. a block and a half down the street to meet a friend for a drink.  half way there he saw a man severely beating his wife. Being the most amazing, strong, heroic and incredible person I know..  even though the guy was twice his size, Matthew intervened.  He managed to subdue this guy for a second and since his wife was beat up pretty good called the cops.. as he did so the guy jumped him from behind and beat him.  This guy did things I can’t even type.  After words, he and his beaten wife left Matthew unconscious on the street.

There’s really no way to appropriately express our appreciation for everyone’s support.  We’ve had calls, letters, gifts, and well wishes pouring in from all around the world and it’s truly the most beautiful and genuine show of compassion and love that we’ve ever experienced.  we very sincerely thank you all..

Matthew’s making good progress.  His doctors have scheduled the next surgery for July 16th wherein they hope to re-apply the portion of his skull that has been removed to accommodate the swelling in his brain.  So for the next 2 weeks he will continue to rest, build up his strength and spirit and hopefully by then he’ll be healthy enough for surgery.  Huge thank you to Dr. Neckrysh and his team of neuro-surgeons and the entire staff at UIC Hospitals, who’ve been amazing and have quite literally saved Matthew’s life.

In other news, the Chicago Police Department have arrested Justin Pivec – the alleged attacker.  Detectives Michael D’Andrea and Joseph Gentile of Area 4 Special Victims Unit and the entire CPD have worked relentlessly to make the arrest and I can’t thank them enough.  For now, Justin Pivec is charged with Aggravated Battery Causing Serious Bodily Injury.  We’ll release more information as we get it and as is appropriate to share.  I’ll never understand violence in general… violence against women is simply appaling.  When Matthew saw the attack in progress, he was well aware that intervening was most likely going to turn out pretty badly for himself, but he did it anyway.. i’m just super proud of him and super grateful for the community that has rallied around him.

This has been an impossible time for us and without the support of these doctors, the police, our attorney, management, friends, family, bands, labels, and every single one of you who has written, called, text, sent gifts, positive energy, love, support, awareness, etc.  I don’t think we would have been able to pull through.  So please, I hope every one of you realize what a critical part you’ve played in helping Matthew recover.  We’ll never be able to thank you enough.  all the love in the world xoxo

In the early estimates the Haiti earthquake death toll was relatively modest. At first, it looked like thousands had died from the 7.0 quake earlier this week.  But as of the latest news, it seems like the most conservative estimates number in the hundreds of thousands. Currently, the Haiti earthquake death toll is expected to be as high as 500,000, at the least.

In Port-au-Prince, it is estimated that 60 to 80% of buildings collapse. More than a million people are without shelter and no immediate prospect of accommodation in camps. These figures remain as estimates as it will take more time to have a full overview of the magnitude of the damage. Many people are sleeping outside fearing aftershocks or because homes have been reduced to rubble. The BBC reports that rescue teams and medical services are overwhelmed. There is urgent need of food and water.

1. Already viral on Facebook and social networking sites, the Red Cross is getting the word out about its text-message donation system. Text “HAITI” to the number 90999 to donate $10, which will be added to your next cellphone bill. You can also donate online through the Red Cross website.

2. Hospitals in Haiti are badly damaged and overwhelmed. To help medical aid workers, donate to Doctors Without Borders on its website.

3. International aid group CARE has already sent 133 staff members to Haiti, and it will be distributing food. You can donate your Delta Air Lines SkyMiles to transport CARE aid workers to Haiti or give money for relief funds through its website.

4. Louise Ivers, clinical director for Haiti for Partners in Health, wrote in an E-mail to colleagues, “Port-au-Prince is devastated, lot of deaths. SOS. SOS … Please help us.” You can donate to support Partners in Health’s field hospitals on its website.

5. Today, World Vision heads to Haiti with 18 tons of supplies, including blankets, tarps, and water containers. Support World Vision by donating through its website.

6. The UNICEF representative in Haiti, Guido Cornale, told the BBC yesterday that the Haitian earthquake is one of the worst he’s seen in his life. To help children in Haiti, donate via UNICEF’s website.

7. Haitian-American rapper Wyclef Jean’s foundation to rebuild Haiti, Yéle, is also accepting text-message donations. Text “Yele” to 501501 to donate $5, which will be added to your next phone bill. You can also donate via the Yéle Foundation’s website.

8. International Relief and Development will supply water, sanitation kits, medicines, hygiene kits, and shelter materials. You can donate to IRD on its website.

9. Oxfam already has 200 volunteers stationed in Haiti. They’ll be providing clean water, shelter, and sanitation through donations on Oxfam’s website.

10. The Salvation Army is sending 285,120 boxed meals of rice, soy, and vitamins to Haiti. Support the Salvation Army through its website.

At the beginning of November Promos4Awareness.com announced that the first annual Promos4Awareness was going to be launched. We were on the hunt to find people willing enough to donate clothing, toys, food, and anything the could for the less fortunate.

Promos4Awareness.com had also recently sponsored an event with Save Durham’s Music Scene and Revolation Entertainment at Le Skratch in Oshawa showcasing some outstanding bands. During the event Promos4Awareness had a donation box for anyone willing to donate some articles to charity. The response we got from this was outstanding. We got bags full of clothes, gloves, and hats! We would like to thank the community for their donations once again!

In a dire time of need, it is good to see people come together and help the less fortunate. We gathered a great deal of donations, and we are glad we had the chance to drop these things off to the people in need.
