WyClef has promised to campaign on positive aspects and goals like improving education, creating jobs and rebuilding the country’s infrastructure.  Sources have said that Wyclef circumvent the strict rules for those running for office, which includes a clause stating that that the candidate must have lived in the country for at least five consecutive years, by way of his honorary title as the country’s ambassador at large

According to brother and spokesman, Sam Jean, while recently having traveled to Haiti with his fundraising and relief organization Yéle Haiti, Wyclef was deeply affected by what he had seen in his homeland. Sam was quoted to have recently said, “He saw they need much more help than he could provide himself”.  “If he got involved, there’s a opportunity to really affect the lives of the youth in Haiti. It’s one thing to say, ‘Get involved.’ It’s another thing to actually do it.”

Wyclef had also recently headed into the studio and is currently working on an in-progress album, The Haitian Experience. A new song, “The Day After,” about his trip to the country following the earthquake can already be heard.

Robert Fatton, a Haitian-born professor at the University of Virginia. “But he has mobilized the youth, and his music resonates in the urban slums and the refugee camps. In Haiti, you need to have good music to connect with the population.”

Triple Crown Records is pleased to announce the signing of Portland, Oregon’s Plug In Stereo – also known as 17-year-old wunderkind Trevor Dahl. This jack-of-all-trades, multi-instrumentalist with a talent for crafting easy-going, down to earth acoustic melodies is excited for this next step in his career.

“Right now, the only thing I want in life is for people to hear my music,” says Dahl. “I grew up in high school playing in bands, but was tired of the fake, closed-minded attitudes that a lot of kids my age shared. I always had my solo/acoustic music on the side, so as I got older, my style and sound changed to a more honest and organic approach.”

By the age of 16, Plug In Stereo was touring the country and sharing the stage with the likes of Never Shout Never, The Ready Set, and Dashboard Confessional, as well as dates on the 2009 Vans Warped Tour.

After self-releasing and self-recording two EPs, Dahl entered Engaged Audio with producer Kevin Gates (Never Shout Never, Cady Groves, The Ready Set) to record his first full-length Nothing To Something. The first digital single “Oh Darling” featuring guest vocals from Cady Groves (RCA) has scanned over 8,000 tracks in less than three months. The album will be released this fall via Triple Crown Records.

This week, our not-for-profit organization comes to us for their efforts in defense of earth rights.  Through documentation, organization, teaching, and various other methods, they expose and publicize earth rights abuses through campaigns, reports and articles.

Ka Hsaw Wa, Co-Founder and Executive Director, is a member of the Karen ethnic nationality of Burma. He was one of the student leaders in the 1988 nation-wide student uprising for democracy and freedom, and has been a human rights activist since he fled Burma in 1988. As well as managing and directing the overall operations of EarthRights International, Ka Hsaw Wa coordinates a grassroots field staff that has successfully documented human rights and environmental abuses within Burma.

The Sea Shepherds are a activist group founded by Paul Watson who had been forced to part ways with Greenpeace in an 11 to 1 vote, the 1 vote being his own.  Sea Shepherds focus on the protection of underwater wildlife, mostly known for their protection campaign of whales against Japanese Whalers in the popular TV series Whale Wars which can be seen on Animal Planet. Armed with leading tactics and non violence, they plan on stopping the Japanese Whalers from killing nearly 1000 whales a year, in the name of, what the Japanese call “science”. It is without a doubt well known that Japanese culture can harvest a lot from whales, such as their meats being publicly sold in supermarkets for great profit margins.

Known internationally as alternative superstar front man of Gym Class Heroes, Travis McCoy has decided to step out of the superstar fame and back into his own roots. McCoy’s solo debut sees a pairing of writers, artists and producers alike featuring T-Pain, Bruno Mars and the Smeezingtons (B.o.B, Cobra Starship, Flo Rida) just to name a few.

The album opens with the song Dr. Feel Good (feat. Cee-Lo Green), which lives up to it’s name with no hesitation. From the second you put on the first track, you see the direction that Travie has taken with his solo project. The optimistic beat, and cheerful lyrics are exactly the theme you should expect through this album.  Superbad flows on next, and takes you down a notch, while still leaving a glimmer of hope.  You can begin to feel the vibe of this album, and notice a boost in maturity within the lyrical content since previous Gym Class Heroes releases.

As the album progresses, it peaks at my favorite track, and the single Billionaire (feat. Bruno Mars).  The first single ‘Billionaire’ is currently the #5 song on iTunes and #15 on radio.  This song is what makes Travie McCoy, well, Travie. To this day, I had not a clue who Bruno Mars was, but now all I know is that he is talented, and an amazing musician. I can’t wait to hear more of him in the near future, and thanks to Travis for the introduction. The lyrics on this track are outstanding, and so empowering. Such a positive song is a nice refreshing change of pace within the industry these days, that it is almost calming in a strange kind of way.

The album then leads into a few songs which can be expected from Travie. Need You and Critical (feat. Tim William) show the roots of Travie. Both songs can easily remind you of Gym Class Heroes albums, which is by no means a negative aspect of the album.  I find it refreshing to hear the tracks into a mixture of various genres combined into one single album.

Akidagain follows, which is another great song. This song is hands down the runner up for best song on the album. I think the addition of kids doing group guest vocals, adds a personal touch to the song, which plays great on the meaning on the track. It’s a song that puts you in Travis’ feet as you reminisce about the old memories, and past.

We’ll be alright loosely makes me think of Gym Class Heroes – Clothes Off!, which in itself is a fun song. It’s just a genuine song about being happy, and being up-beat and living life to it’s fullest and enjoying every moment of it, which seems to be a significant theme throughout the album. The Manual (feat. T-Pain and Young Cash) follows, leading us into After Midnight, which again plays into the theme of living life to it’s fullest and enjoying every moment of it.

To put an end to an immaculate album you will be graced by Don’t Pretend (feat. Colin Munroe), which is very much so a ballad about broken hearts and lost romances.  This is possibly the most serious song on the album, and the song to throw you off the most.  After an album filled with happiness, and excitement, this is the equivalent of throwing an acoustic song into a Metal album featuring repetitive breakdowns. It might have been unexpected, but it was worth while none the less.

All in all, this album is a absolute must buy for any fan of Gym Class Heroes, or hip hop for that matter. This album is promising, and an absolute pleasure to listen to. With the release of the album comes the press, and Travie is going to be celebrating the release of “LAZARUS” with Bruno Mars on national television appearances and performances on both NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno followed by a June 21st appearance on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Musician Lends His Voice To Help Provide Safe Drinking Water To Children Around The World

Waterborne illnesses are the second highest cause of preventable childhood deaths

NEW YORK, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The U.S. Fund for UNICEF today announced that musician/entrepreneur and social philanthropist, Pete Wentz will be the national spokesperson for the 2010 UNICEF Tap Project.

Now in its fourth year, the UNICEF Tap Project is a grassroots initiative that will take place during World Water Week 2010 (March 21-27) and invites individuals to donate $1 or more for tap water at participating restaurants to provide clean water to children around the world.

Best known as the bassist for the immensely popular rock band, Fall Out Boy, Wentz has been regularly active—both at home and abroad—in supporting social causes which impact the well-being of children.

“It’s truly an honor to be the national spokesperson for the Tap Project and support efforts to provide clean water to children in the developing world,” said Wentz. “Water is something that we as Americans often take for granted but the reality is, the lack of clean and accessible drinking water kills 4,100 children under the age of five every day and as a new father I have become highly attuned to the needs of children everywhere. In its four years of existence, the UNICEF Tap Project has become a uniquely hip, award-winning national campaign which has attracted a wide swath of volunteers and celebrity supporters. Previous national spokespeople for the Tap Project have included, UNICEF ambassadors: Sarah Jessica Parker (2007), Lucy Liu (2008) and Joel and Benji Madden (2009).

Nearly 900 million people do not have access to clean water and nearly half of those people are children. Young children are the first to get sick and die from waterborne and sanitation-related illnesses including diarrheal diseases and malaria.

UNICEF works in more than 100 countries around the world to improve access to safe water and sanitation facilities in schools and communities, and to promote safe hygiene practices. Over the past 15 years, more than a billion people gained access to improved drinking water and sanitation facilities thanks to UNICEF’s efforts. Every day, 24,000 children die of preventable causes, and UNICEF is committed to doing whatever it takes to make that number zero. With $1, UNICEF can provide one child access to safe, clean water for 40 days.
